• 2002 – Won the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede and Ellensburg Xtreme Bull Riding; finished 13th in the world. Took a bull’s horn to the mouth, breaking his nose and knocking out three teeth and causing him to start wearing a helmet.
• 2001 – Joined the PRCA. Spent most of 2001 trying to heal a broken leg. He broke his leg early in season and had a rod inserted. Later that year he bent the rod and had to have surgery

Personal
Hobbies include breaking and training horses for barrel racing and calf roping…Graduated from Hillsboro (Wis.) High School with 30 classmates…Father is Eddie, and mom is Jayne Potter…Has one sister, Jenni Potter…Eddie is a horse trainer and sells horses…Jayne works for Lands End and is B.J.’s bookkeeper …Father was instrumental in getting B.J. started in rodeo by serving as his coach…In high school, he competed in seven events that included bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, calf roping and cutting…Competed in bareback riding for three years and saddle bronc riding for five years but said they were more nerve wracking than bull riding because a horse could hurt you worse in the chutes, so specialized in bull riding…Competed in bareback riding in the PRCA his permit year and this was probably his best event…Favorite food is lasagna,…Favorite magazine is the ProRodeo Sports News…Favorite athletes outside of rodeo are Peyton Manning and Brett Favre…Favorite movie is Lonesome Dove and most John Wayne movies.
